Leaders' Tour (Essex): Andrew Scheer Proposes Tougher Penalties for Ethics Law Violations

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer speaks with reporters in Essex, Ontario, after announcing a Conservative government will introduce legislation establishing stronger financial penalties for violation of the Conflict of Interest Act. Politicians who break Canada’s ethics laws could face fines of up to $20,000. His government would also increase oversight powers of the ethics commissioner and the lobbying commissioner.
